Scrapbook Paper Gift Box

This year I have been serving as Co-director of Creative Activities at MOPS, along with my friend Emily. At our recent Christmas party we led a quick craft to help out with the holiday season. It's a small box (4 1/2" x 3 5/8") made out of scrapbook paper. It's the perfect size for ornaments, a few truffles, jewelry, etc. (what's inside this one? hmmmmmmmmmmmm :-) Check back December 26th.

I've had some requests for the instructions so I thought I would post it. This is my first craft tutorial for a blog, so please be patient with me. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment or email me.

Supplies You will Need:
(2) 12" x 12" pieces of scrapbook paper
a pencil or pen
a ruler
scotch tape

Starting with the 12” x 12” sheet of scrapbook paper you want to be on the BOTTOM of your box, make an X on the backside of it, drawing a line from each corner to the corresponding diagonal point. Next, go to the top left corner and using a ruler, make a mark at the 2” 4” and 6” points , measuring from the corner towards the center of the page. Do the same at the bottom right-hand corner (working towards the center).


Draw the top left corner in until the point touches the 4” mark nearest to it. Crease to make a fold. Repeat in bottom right corner.

Fold paper again until the edge touches the 6” mark nearest to it. crease to make a fold. Starting on the left side of the top edge, write #1,2,3, & 4 where the two sides of the paper meet (see picture).

Fold paper one more time so that folds meet on the middle line.



Write A in the left side v, and B in the right side v. fold remaining corners in like an envelope so that none of the underside of the paper is seen.


Fold ends creasing the paper at the point where all three sides converge. Repeat on the opposite side.


Fold each side again, towards the center, making a tight crease at the fold. The paper may overlap in the center. This is OK. Make sure the final crease is also a tight one (unfold tucked paper to make a tight crease if necessary)
Unfold the paper until you can see the #1, 2, 3, & 4.
At each number, fold paper back to make a crease exactly where the two sides of the paper meet. Crease only the short length where they meet. Repeat at each number.

Referring to the photo, hold your paper in front of you with the sides up. With a hand on each side, place your index fingers behind #1 & #4, and push in until they come to a point at letter A.


Draw down the flap above point a and tuck down to cover that point. Secure with scotch tape and go over your creases firmly to emphasize the box shape. Repeat on the otherside.

Repeat all instructions with another piece of 12” x 12” scrapbook paper to create the top of the box.
